About the WPA

To preserve and protect the residential character, heritage, aesthetics, green spaces (including the Baakens Valley interface), and quality of life in the defined area of Walmer.

We are a voluntary community association operating in Walmer, Nelson Mandela Bay — bounded by 1st Avenue, Community Road, 14th Avenue, and the Baakens Valley.. Membership is open to all residents, property owners, and ratepayers within this area who are 18 years or older.

Our Objectives

Preserve Walmer's Character

Protect the residential character, heritage, aesthetics, green spaces, and quality of life in Walmer.

Monitor Development

Actively monitor all rezoning applications, land-use changes, subdivisions, densification proposals, and other developments to prevent urban decay.

Review Zoning Changes

Comment on zoning changes or developments that may negatively impact traffic, infrastructure, parking, safety, property values, or residential character.

Infrastructure Advocacy

Advocate for proper maintenance of roads, water, electricity, stormwater, street lighting, waste removal, sewage, sidewalks, and public open spaces.

Community Safety

Promote community safety, environmental protection, and responsible development in keeping with the scale and nature of Walmer.

Represent Residents

Represent residents and ratepayers in engagements with the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, Ward Councillors, the Municipal Planning Tribunal, and other authorities.

Foster Cooperation

Work constructively with other community organisations sharing similar goals and foster cooperation among residents.

Become a Member

Membership is voluntary. We suggest an annual contribution of R100 per household (voluntary) to cover operational costs.
